Mr Steve Gladston (CEO of HeliOperations) recently spoke to the BBC about taking ownership of sixteen Sea King helicopters from the Ministry of Defence. A transfer ceremony was held at HeliOperations’ heliport at Osprey Quay in Portland earlier this month, where the company will train the next generation of Search and Rescue pilots, including those for the Federal German Navy. The Sea King was recently retired from military service with the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, although HeliOperations, their new owner, will be operating the aircraft for some years to come. Indeed, for this batch of Sea Kings the future is bright; the future is HeliOps orange!
