Aviation Engineering Apprenticeships

Training the Next Generation

Posted: 9th April, 2026

Over the last 5 years, HeliOperations has invested in both capability and people through our structured apprenticeship program. The program is a structured pathway that blends hands-on engineering experience with a degree in aerospace engineering from Yeovil College University Centre. Apprentices learn everything from sheet‑metal fabrication to composite construction, supported by the aeronautical theory that underpins safe and effective engineering practice. The result is a workforce shaped by our values and equipped for the demands of modern aviation.

Our approach is already paying dividends; Oliver Whyton has completed his apprenticeship and is now an integral member of the engineering team on his way to an AW139 type rating. Will Christian is in the first year of his apprenticeship and Sam Dunlop is gaining part time on-the-job experience before starting college in September. All three have been recruited locally and are very much part of the ongoing development of HeliOperations.
